Exit festival is thrilled to announce that, after a long absence from European shores, one of the world’s most iconic bands, Duran Duran will return in Serbia to play a very special live show at the Petrovaradin fortress on Thursday, July 12th 2012, in support of their latest album All You Need Is Now. EXIT Festival’s Fusion Stage is delighted to host one of Scandinavia’s indie best, Little Dragon, Elektrana will welcome Australian band Sneaky Sound System and Happynovisad Stage is presenting R&S Records showcase - Teengirl Fantasy Live, Lone, Pariah i The Chain.
Last in this part of Europe in 2008, this summer’s Duran Duran show will see the four original band members – John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon - and guitarist Dom Brown, showcase songs from their most recent, critically-acclaimed Record, alongside their iconic hits of the 80s and 90s such as Girls On Film, Rio, Planet Earth, Hungry Like The Wolf, The Reflex, Notorious, Come Undone and Ordinary World.
“All of us at EXIT are thrilled beyond words that Duran Duran will be playing at this year’s festival. So many memorable hits to look forward to along with new material from their recent album should stamp 2012 as another defining moment for EXIT”, said EXIT General Manager Bojan Boskovic.
The stats on Duran Duran are remarkable: a total of over 80 million records sold, 18 American hit singles, 30 chart-toppers in their UK home market, and a global presence that guarantees them huge concert audiences on five continents. More remarkable still is the way they have achieved this, fusing pop music with art, fashion and technology. When they first broke in the early 1980s, Duran Duran single-handedly transformed music videos from a gimmicky marketing tool into one of the music industry’s most valued assets. With exotic locations, beautiful girls and stunning special effects, Duran Duran took the visual imperatives of the New Romantic movement to another level, defining the MTV generation and building a loyal army of fans who have stayed with them to this day.
With their new album produced by the Grammy Award-winning producer and super-fan Mark Ronson and mixed by Spike Stent, the record is a return-to-roots homage to Duran Duran’s most celebrated musical panache. With lead-off single All You Need Is Now and the recently released Girl Panic !, the spectacular video for which features the original supermodels - Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon, Eva Herizgova and Cindy Crawford - Duran Duran continues to be at the forefront of musical innovation.
Now a seemingly unstoppable force, with no fewer than six prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards under their belt in the last few years from MTV, the Brit Awards, the Ivor Novellos, the Spanish Ondas, Q Magazine and GQ Magazine, Duran Duran are in a category with only a handful of other internationally acclaimed artists.
As this new chapter begins, they have nothing left to prove, but everything to play for. Already garnering rave reviews around the world for the All You Need Is Now Tour, Duran Duran is all set to put on a stunning performance for their old and new fans alike, at Exit Festival in 2012!
But wait theres more.... EXIT Festival’s Fusion Stage is delighted to host one of Scandinavia’s indie best, Little Dragon.
Everyone needs summer pick-me-up and EXIT has secured the best tonic in Swedish electro pop act Little Dragon. A four-piece band, headed by the astonishing vocals of Japanese-Swedish singer Yukimi Nagano. Little Dragon has released 3 studio albums so far – the last one, Ritual Union (2011), earned positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Rolling Stone magazine describes the album “hits a sweet spot between the futuristic soul of their debut and the synth pop of 2009's Machine Dreams“.
There is no disputing the combination of Nagano’s dazzling voice and collaborations with eclectic artists including Gorillaz, DJ Shadow and SBTRKT, serve to confirm the groups rising popularity.
Happynovisad Stage is preparing a dessert for you this year! Straight from the R&S Records’ kitchen - Teengirl Fantasy Live, Lone, Pariah i The Chain will decorate the festival’s grandious dining table. The British duet, Teengirl Fantasy, has existed for only three years, but achieved numerous successes. Their single from the album 7AM, named Cheaters, was named Single of the Year by Fact Magazine, automatically launching them on a tour with the grand Crystal Castles. Lone is a pseudonym used by Matt Cutler, with a fertile production which has enriched us with four albums and 5 EPs in only five years! His most significant work is Lemurian, the album released in 2008. The critics have described the album as a sensual release with a distinctive identity. Matt Cutler is also active in a project named Kona Triangle.
Under the moniker Pariah hides the dubstep and future garage producer Arthur Cayzer, who released his single, Detroit Falls, as well as an EP, Safehouses for the outspoken R&S Records. He is also famous for remixing numbers for the media-loved The xx and the soul diva, Erykah Badu. As well as his colleague, James Blake, Pariah has received praises from very influential media houses such as Pitchfork and Resident Advisor, and is being considered one of the most important producers of Britain’s new wave of dance music, identified by many as post-dubstep. Concluding the list, we are proud to welcome another name of R&S Records’ - The Chain, under which perform London’s producers Dan Foat i Nathan Boddy.
After the announced When Saints Go Machine, this year’s Elektrana Stage welcomes the Australian act Sneaky Sound System. The lineup, formed in 2006, consisting of the guitarist and producer Black Angus, and the singer Connie Mitchell, has so far released three studio albums. The last one, From Here To Anywhere, is one of the most exciting things that happened to the electro pop scene, according to the audience. Connie added a new, unique note to the genre, with her passionate, outstanding african descent voice, whereas Angus has created a shiny new product of the new age, with hits such as Big, Really Want To See You Again and We Love. The band, during its career, has collaborated with worldwide stars such as DJ Tiesto, Azari&III, KiNK and many others.
The confirmed acts for this year’s Exit Festival, held from July 12 to 15, include the illustrious Guns n’ Roses and New Order, the powerful indie act Gossip, new rock ’n’ roll attraction Wolfmother, world music sensation Buraka Som Sistema, Elektrana Stage will host When Saints Go Machine, while the world famous Dance Arena will feature names such as Avicii, Richie Hawtin, Laurent Garnier LBS, Miss Kittin, Felix Da Housecat, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Live, Azari & III Live, Art Department, Maceo Plex, Brodinski, as well as the members of the famous Cadenza label, Luciano, Reboot Live, Kenny Larkin, Robert Dietz and Maayan Nidam.
