The cult British punk rock band was formed in London in the late ’70s as a response to art school punk which dominated the scene at the time, but also to social and political contexts and problems.
After only four local gigs, they signed to the legendary EMI Records and went on to have sold-out concerts across the UK and an appearance on the cult music show Top Of The Pops, where they performed the song “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles“, dedicated to West Ham Football Club.
The song “Oi, Oi, Oi“ from their second album instigated the formation of a separate branch of punk, a movement within a movement. During their four-decade-long career, they have released ten studio albums and performed in front of hundreds of thousands.
This year, Cockney Rejects embark on a farewell tour, during which they will perform at the EXIT festival.
