She reflects her genius and dedication to all aspects of her life and work \u2014 she is both a fashion icon and an LGBTQ+ activist.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Born <strong>Honey Redmond<\/strong>, she grew up in the 1970s in <strong>Chicago<\/strong>, a city that would later become the capital of the house genre. This city&#8217;s subculture and musical milieu would profoundly influence Honey and her family. She made her first musical steps absorbing the sounds of soul and R\u2019n\u2019B from her parents\u2019 record player. It was a brief love story: she heard music and fell in love with it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Five decades later, she is one of the greatest female DJs in the world, with three albums and dozens of singles and EPs<\/strong>. Her trademark is precisely the fact that she is a chameleon, skilfully moving through various genres while retaining her recognisable house sound.<\/p>\n<p>Her mentor and long-time friend is none other than the great <strong>Derrick Carter<\/strong>. After moving to New York, she met music giant <strong>Danny Tenaglia<\/strong>, who was another great source of inspiration for her. This connection between Chicago and New York is evident in her tracks and sets. Also, Honey spends some time each year in <strong>Berlin<\/strong>, and this city and its music have also left an indelible mark on her artistic expression.<\/p>\n<p>In that context, she once said: \u201c<em>A lot of people still associate me with swingy Chicago and classic house and disco, but I can rock dirty rhythmic techno as well<\/em>.\u201d She has released music under record labels such as <strong>Stereo Cool<\/strong> and <strong>Classic Music Company<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cvBkn1wVNDQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Love Is A State Of Mind<\/strong><\/a>\u201c is her latest single, released only half a month ago, as part of the upcoming album \u201c<strong>Black Girl Magic<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>She has been playing music at fashion shows and art exhibitions for a long time. <strong>Her passion for fashion and her activism in the field of LGBTQ+ rights has led her to sign a contract with the fashion giant Calvin Klein<\/strong>. Namely, last year she was one of the faces of this fashion house\u2019s LGBTQIA+ campaign.<\/p>\n<p>As a trans person, she is a strong advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, both through an open attitude in her interviews and through her music.
