{"id":211394,"date":"2022-06-24T11:12:57","date_gmt":"2022-06-24T09:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exitfest.org\/?p=211394"},"modified":"2022-06-24T11:12:57","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T09:12:57","slug":"zhu-the-best-of-deep-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.exitfest.org\/en\/zhu-the-best-of-deep-house","title":{"rendered":"ZHU \u2013 The Best of Deep House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Steven Zhu, a.k.a. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitfest.org\/en\/lineup\/zhu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ZHU<\/a>, had his breakthrough in 2014 with the song \u201cFaded\u201c, which, we can honestly say, put the American deep house scene back on the world map.<\/strong> The following year, he was nominated for the most important music award in the world \u2013 the Grammy.<\/p>\n<p>He released his debut album \u201c<strong>Generationwhy<\/strong>\u201c in 2016 and premiered it at the Coachella Festival. <strong>This got him compared to the iconic Daft Punk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>His beginnings were quiet, anonymous, with an exclusive focus on music<\/strong>. Before the fame and \u201cFaded\u201c, in February 2014, he released an unsinged mash-up of Outkast\u2019s hit \u201c<strong>Moves Like Ms Jackson<\/strong>\u201c. This led to various discussions about who the author of the remix was on Reddit and EDM forums. Only two months later, he released \u201cFaded\u201c, a mystical and somewhat dark track that became an instant hit from the EP \u201c<strong>Nightday<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>He hid his identity because of his Chinese origins and, as his manager Jake Udell pointed out, the \u201cblack and white music climate,\u201d and because sometimes we are unaware of the limitations that our conscious or unconscious prejudices bring us. ZHU remained anonymous until he was sure that he had built a name for himself and that people appreciated and loved him for his music, not who he was.<\/p>\n<p>In the year in which he was nominated for a Grammy, he also released an EP called \u201c<strong>Genesis Series<\/strong>\u201c. The EP hosted <strong>Skrillex, AlunaGeorge, A-Trak <\/strong>and<strong> Bone Thugs N Harmony<\/strong>, among others. This release received many positive reviews due to its genre diversity. The song \u201e<strong>Working For It<\/strong>\u201c went platinum in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The first single from the album \u201c<strong>Generationwhy<\/strong>\u201c \u2013 \u201cIn the morning\u201c came in 2016. The single \u201c<strong>Nightcrawler<\/strong>\u201c was released the following year, as well as \u201cIntoxicate\u201c. He also did a remix of \u201c<strong>Andromeda<\/strong>\u201c by Gorillaz, \u201c<strong>Bad and Boujee<\/strong>\u201c by Migos and \u201c<strong>Feel it Still<\/strong>\u201c by Portugal. He released his third EP, \u201c<strong>Stardustexhalemarrakechdreams<\/strong>\u201d, in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He never stopped with his hard work and effort, so in 2018, he released his second studio album, \u201cRingos Desert\u201c, with 14 tracks<\/strong>. On this album, he collaborated with the famous Australian indie-rock band <strong>Tame Impala<\/strong>, Canadian r &amp; b duo <strong>Majid Jordan<\/strong> and American DJ <strong>Tokimonsta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The single \u201c<strong>Only<\/strong>\u201c from his third studio album \u201c<strong>Dreamland 2021<\/strong>\u201c was released in 2020. He wrote this album inspired by warehouse rave, and it featured a total of 12 songs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>His sophisticated style and melodic mystique are not surprising, given his avant-garde and jazz roots<\/strong> \u2013 as a kid, he played in various jazz bands.
