The same year, the metalheads from the same country, Lorde, won, quite unexpectedly, the Eurovision Song Contest in their \u201cmonster costumes.\u201d When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitfest.org\/en\/lineup\/blind-channel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blind Channel<\/a> appeared at the same event in 2021, the European (and Australian) crowd instantly recognised the vibe and danced to the hit \u201cDark Side.\u201d They finished sixth, justifying the Finns\u2019 reputation as unusual yet brave participants in this colourful festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year, along with the Eurovision audience favourite, <strong>Konstrakta<\/strong>, <strong>Blind Channel<\/strong> is coming to EXIT to continue where <strong>Phil Anselmo<\/strong> and <strong>Sabaton<\/strong> left off in 2019 and 2021, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Some call Blind Channel a <strong>nu-metal band<\/strong>, comparing them to <strong>Linkin Park<\/strong>, while more \u201corthodox\u201d fans of hard sound say they are <strong>post-hardcore<\/strong>. The band members call their style \u201c<strong>violent pop<\/strong>\u201c, and they formed the band in the city of <strong>Oulu<\/strong>, on the very border of the <strong>Arctic Circle<\/strong>, where there is no shortage of snow.<\/p>\n<p>The band was founded in mid-2013 by classmates <strong>Joel Hokka and Joonas Porko<\/strong>, who at the time were in what they describe as \u201crival bands\u201d and decided to join forces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Niko Moilanen suggested the name Blind Channel as an ironic illusion to MTV<\/strong> since they all watched MTV as kids and dreamed of becoming musicians. Then MTV stopped playing music and shifted to reality shows, thus becoming the \u201cblind channel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band released their debut single, \u201c<strong>Save Me<\/strong>\u201c (along with an accompanying music video), in October 2013. They had their first live show at a small rock club in Oulu in late 2013 before releasing the EP \u201c<strong>Antipode<\/strong>\u201c on 21st March 2014, featuring the singles \u201c<strong>Naysayers<\/strong>\u201c and \u201c<strong>Calling Out<\/strong>\u201c. They soon released the EP \u201c<strong>Foreshadow<\/strong>\u201c in October 2014, and their debut studio album \u201c<strong>Revolutions<\/strong>\u201c was released in September 2016 and included the singles \u201c<strong>Unforgiving<\/strong>\u201c, \u201c<strong>Don&#8217;t<\/strong>\u201c, \u201c<strong>Darker Than Black<\/strong>\u201c, \u201c<strong>Deja FU<\/strong>\u201c, and \u201c<strong>Enemy for Me<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>The band continued their tour in Finland and the surrounding countries. As atypical metalheads and self-proclaimed pop musicians, in March 2017, they released a cover of the hit single \u201cCan\u2019t Hold Us\u201d by the American hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.<br \/>\nTheir most successful and most personal album was released on March 6th 2020, with the name \u201c<strong>Violent Pop<\/strong>\u201c, which they would later use to define all their music. Clearly, the timing could not have been more unfortunate. Ten days later, the whole world, including Finland, shut down. Their promotional tour was cancelled, and they started doing streaming shows, while in a short-term lull during the summer, they released a power-pop (or violent-pop) cover of Anastasia\u2019s hit \u201c<strong>Left Outside Alone<\/strong>\u201c. They performed the nu-metal song \u201c<strong>Dark Side<\/strong>\u201c in front of hundreds of millions of viewers in Rotterdam in May 2021 and won their hearts \u2014 they were 4th in the audience vote.
