Liam Howlett <\/b>is the driving force, the mastermind, the unchanging constant, and the author of all the songs of the most influential electro-punk band of all time, which this musical genius initially conceived as a solo project.<\/span> From the piano lessons that he attended as a child and his first foray into experimenting with production, through forming a band, designing performances that made them one of the world’s most exciting concert attractions, to today’s status as a revolutionary of the electronic scene, <\/span>Liam Howlett’s<\/b> musical journey is permeated with constant innovation and evolution, but also with a struggle to preserve authentic underground culture. <\/span>Keith Flint, Maxim Reality, and Leeroy Thornhill <\/b>perfectly accompanied his rhythm, and their combined vision led to the creation of a band that became a mirror, epitome, and defining factor of the rave community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first rave parties in Great Britain were massive and mostly illegal, thrown in small, rural towns, abandoned buildings, and barns. The then seventeen-year-old <\/span>Liam Howlett<\/b>, who built his musical foundations on hip-hop, was instantly infatuated with the new sound and energy of the subculture whose birth he witnessed and with which he grew up. In his own four walls, in a studio built with money earned from seasonal jobs, he pushed the boundaries of electronic music, combining samples and mixing elements of techno, breakbeat, and jungle to create a sound that was uniquely his own. In that studio, in his room, a large part of the discography of <\/span>The Prodigy<\/b><\/a>, named after Liam’s first synthesiser, was created.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before founding the band, <\/span>Howlett <\/b>already had an entire arsenal of self-produced tapes \u201cin stock.\u201d He also agreed on the release of an EP, <\/span>\u201c<\/b>What Evil Lurks<\/b><\/a>,<\/b>\u201c<\/b> with leading independent underground label <\/span>XL<\/b>, where his powerful musical vision was recognised. In the meantime, he met two prominent “ravers from the crowd,\u201d <\/span>Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill<\/b>. He invited them to join him on stage, united in a common idea \u2014 to do what felt right. They were soon joined by MC <\/span>Maxim Reality<\/b>, whose official introduction to the band happened <\/span>in medias res <\/span><\/i>\u2014 at their first performance together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout their career, <\/span>The Prodigy<\/b> tried to maintain this creative process \u2014 <\/span>Liam<\/b> would write and compose music independently, and instead of organised rehearsals, the band would try out new musical material via direct interaction and energy exchange with the audience at their increasingly frequent live performances. This approach turned out to be the formula for their success \u2014 the 1992 debut album <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Experience<\/b><\/a>\u201c<\/b> became a classic before its official release, with lead singles <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Charly<\/b><\/a>\u201c <\/b>and <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Out of Space<\/b><\/a>.<\/b>\u201c<\/b> All active and prominent producers and DJs, including <\/span>Carl Cox,<\/b> played songs from this release.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first wave of success inevitably led the band to its first obstacles. One of the toughest of those obstacles came in the form of the cover of <\/span>Mixmag Magazine <\/b>featuring an article entitled <\/span>\u201cDid \u2018Charly\u2019 kill rave?\u201c<\/b>criticising the new wave of tracks with \u201cchildish\u201d samples that this single started, pointing the finger at individual members of the band, but also at the entire subculture.<\/span> Revolted by the media tirade, but also by the pressure of the British government, which at that time tried to ban illegal raves, <\/span>Liam<\/b> started working on a new album \u2013 <\/span>“Music for the Jilted Generation”<\/b> \u2013 dedicated to this very problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019ve decided to take my work back underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands\u201c <\/i><\/b>\u2014<\/span> by opening the album with this sample, <\/span>Howlett <\/b>sent a strong message, solidifying the power of the rave movement and setting <\/span>The Prodigy <\/b>firmly on its throne. In the video single <\/span>\u201c<\/b>No Good<\/b><\/a>\u201c<\/b> from the same album, <\/span>Liam <\/b>breaks a wall with a hammer, symbolically announcing the arrival of a new generation, a new sound, and a new era of music. <\/span>\u201cJilted Generation\u201c <\/b>launched <\/span>The Prodigy <\/b>into musical immortality, and <\/span>Liam Howlett, <\/b>at the tender age of 24, became one of the most sought-after and influential producers in the world of electronic music.<\/span><\/p>\n

The band refused to appear on commercial shows and programs with unwavering integrity, guided by <\/span>Howlett’s<\/b> idea that popularity should be built on a <\/span>“solid foundation of strong underground support.” <\/b>Getting signed onto <\/span>Madonna\u2019s <\/b>label, <\/span>Maverick, <\/b>brought the band success overseas, despite Liam’s refusal to produce the \u201cQueen of Pop\u2019s\u201d upcoming album, saying there was <\/span>no way he would commercialise his sound<\/b>. <\/span>The Prodigy\u2019s<\/b> next album delivered something the entire world had been waiting for \u2014 the iconic <\/span>\u201cThe Fat of The Land\u201c<\/b> was the trigger of the planetary electronic music craze, with <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Firestarter<\/b><\/a>\u201c <\/b>and <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Breathe<\/b><\/a>\u201c <\/b>hitting <\/span>#1<\/b> on all the most notable charts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite his stubborn anti-superstar attitude, <\/span>Howlett<\/b> already had two top-10 singles in his musical portfolio as a 20-year-old. The considerable interest in his independent production and selection skills was once crowned with a solo mixtape album, <\/span>\u201c<\/b>Dirtchamber sessions<\/b><\/a>, <\/b>\u201c<\/b> for <\/span>BBC1<\/b>. His A-list influence and presence resulted in a marriage to <\/span>All Saints <\/b>singer <\/span>Natalie Appleton<\/b>. He brought <\/span>The Prodigy <\/b>five <\/span>#1<\/b> spots in the UK Album Charts, 25 million worldwide album sales, two <\/span>Brit Awards<\/b>, three <\/span>MTV Video Music Awards<\/b>, and nominations for the <\/span>Grammy Awards and<\/b> Mercury Prize<\/b>.\u00a0With each subsequent release, <\/span>The Prodigy<\/b> cemented its place at the top of the eternal list of giant headliners of the world’s biggest festivals, stadiums, and tours, ranking itself among the legends of music history.<\/span><\/p>\n

With his masterful production skills, <\/span>Liam Howlett <\/b>redefined the electronic music scene and has been named as a direct source of inspiration for many global music superstars, including <\/span>Skrillex<\/b>, <\/span>Pendulum, Fatboy Slim, Sepultura, Sleaford Mods, Rage Against the Machine, Kasabian, Chemical Brothers <\/b>and<\/span> Enter Shikari<\/b>. From the founding of the band until today, he has maintained the practice of always working in the studio completely alone, usually at night. Despite that, he has almost always signed all of his tracks as <\/span>The Prodigy.<\/b><\/p>\n

As part of the big comeback tour, which already enjoys the status of most sought-after in 2023, <\/span>The Prodigy <\/b>will visit the most prominent European festivals. The list of tour dates also includes <\/span>EXIT<\/b>, which <\/span>Liam Howlett <\/b>has called <\/span>his<\/span> favourite festival<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The <\/span>EXIT Universe, <\/b>taking place from the 6<\/span>th<\/span> to the 9<\/span>th<\/span> of July, has already announced 23 acts for this year. Besides <\/span>The Prodigy<\/b>, the names on the line-up include the eight-time Grammy Award winner <\/span>Skrillex,<\/b> rock sensation<\/span> Viagra Boys, <\/b>one of today\u2019s most popular electronic music collectives <\/span>Keinemusik<\/b>, duo <\/span>CamelPhat<\/b>, <\/span>Hot Since 82,<\/b> Vintage Culture<\/b>, <\/span>Cockney Rejects<\/b> and <\/span>The Toasters<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
