Egypt will be one of the stops on EXIT’s major Global Tour in 2026, with details to be announced in the coming period.
At this time, the EXIT festival can’t be held in Serbia next year, because all public co‑funding at the local, provincial, and national levels has been withdrawn due to our support of student protests. For the same reason, EXIT has also been denied support from the festival’s main sponsor, the state‑owned company mts, after 22 years of successful cooperation. Since the unfavorable economic situation in the country and region means that EXIT tickets are a fraction of the cost compared to festivals of a similar format elsewhere in Europe, a festival on the scale of EXIT cannot be organized within these economic conditions without state support.
This year, EXIT delivered a jubilee and its most emotional edition to date, dedicated entirely to the student protests in Serbia. Together with students who were blocking numerous faculties across the country, we produced the festival’s opening and closing ceremonies, while a student exhibition and a dedicated student stage held prominent positions at the event. Every night, EXIT’s Main Stage was a platform for messages of solidarity with the students, and among those who voiced their support the loudest were Bob Geldof, Sex Pistols, and the Italian singer Gala, who performed the anthem of the student protests.
While local performers who supported the students had their appearances canceled at festivals elsewhere in Serbia, almost all of the most involved bands performed at EXIT- Goblini, Atheist Rap, Ritam Nereda, Marko Louis, Bojana Vunturišević, Kanda Kodža i Nebojša, Partibrejkersi, Pekinška patka, Džoni Midnajt Trio, Oxajo, and many others. As 25 years ago, despite all pressures, EXIT remains committed to the fight for a better and fairer society in our country and once again confirms its role as the only major music festival in Serbia that supported the student protests.
On this occasion, EXIT’s founder and director, Dušan Kovačević, stated: “After we announced that we were forced to leave Serbia due to state repression, we received numerous invitations to organize festivals at locations all over the world. We are currently considering which destinations will become part of EXIT’s Global Tour next year, details of which will be announced soon, and for our loyal audience in Serbia, we are preparing special surprises.”
